Our carpets are all wool, hand woven Turkish carpets. The wool is hand-spun and the colors are completely natural dyes. They are made in several villages of West Anatolia in the homes of the village women. Definitely no children below working age are employed. The designs are traditional Turkish or of Nomadic origin. They have been gathered and perfected by a father and son for 40 years. (Read our story.) The result is a realization of good taste and best quality. The Turkish knot is used and the density of the weave is about 65 knots per square inch.

Quality...

Majik carpets' quality is guaranteed. An irregularity in the weave is only a proof of their being hand-woven. The color in one part of the rug may have a different shade in another part. This is not a defect. It is due to the fact that the dyes used are vegetal dyes applied to the wool using the old original techniques of dying. Some manufacturers, use chemical wash on new rugs to make them look shiny or old. This destroys the carpets life, making it lose its long-lasting properties. Majik carpets does not use chemical wash! Straight wash is used for cleaning.

How to choose a `real carpet`?

There are many rugs manufactured at various levels of quality all over the world. Since you cannot touch and feel our rugs, we have to emphasize the following fact about our rugs to help you understand their quality: Majik Carpets are real Turkish carpets manufactured in Turkey.

Our rugs should not be mistaken with rugs with Turkish designs manufactured in many other countries claiming to be Turkish rugs. These rugs weigh only about 1/5 of a real rug should weigh due to the inferior quality of the materials used. When such a rug is put on a polished tile or wooden floor and someone steps on it, it will slide and slip as if it was a light blanket. So, we would like to mention here that our rugs stay firmly on the floor ... because they are real.

Why Majik ?

These carpets are exclusive realizations. It takes about 6-8 months for a carpet to be woven. If the carpet on our web page has been already sold, you can order one for yourself to be shipped to you 8 months later. You have to pay 1/4 of the price in advance for your order. Our rugs are pieces of art. We call them magic, because, they completely change the room they have entered. We hope you will feel the enchantment we believe to have created.

How these carpets are made

There are 6 phases in the production of a carpet;

Buying the right quality wool
Having the wool hand spun to the desired thickness.
Decision of the designs to be woven and the separation of the wool in terms of the chosen colours and the quantity needed of each colour.
The wool is vegetal dyed in different colour hues.
The wool and designs are brought to the house looms in villages for weaving.
The rug is woven during the winter season by the women of the house.

(This is especially good for the villagers, because, in the winter, they cannot work in the fields and they have no other way to earn money. In the summer, they don't work on the rugs because they work in their fields.)

History of rug weaving in Turkey

It was customary for young girls to weave a few carpets for their dowry. As young girls did embroidery in the West for the same purpose, young girls in the East were supposed to do this. They didn't use these carpets until they married. They carefully kept them in trunks until the big day. These were only sold if the bride unexpectedly died before her wedding. Otherwise, they belonged to the newly weds. With time these customs disappeared in many places. Now, the rugs are woven to earn money for the family.

In ancient times, the art of rug weaving was created by each weaver. They used traditional designs and each girl added something of her own dreams in the rug. So, the designs evolved. Different regions had different designs. They influenced each other. That is why it is customary to name the design according to the region it originated from.

The rugs made today are reproductions of old traditional designs. Pieces from museums and antique rugs were used to recreate the new designs.

Directions for care

Do not wash your carpet. If you do, it has to be with real soap and not detergent, and rinse well. When you vaccuum, do not hold the vaccuum to the fringes as not to cause damage. You can clean your rug every 15 days or a month not with commercial cleaning solutions but just a bucket of plain water to which you have added 1/2 cup of vinegar.
